Murray District and Curriculum

The schools in Murray follow the curriculum suggested by the Kentucky Department of Education. This curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for elementary and secondary level teaching within each subject. Grade level expectations are established so that students and their parents know what is expected for them to learn each year. The individualized attention each student receives means that he or she can has the support he or she needs to improve upon areas of academic weakness. The district has a particular focus on integrating technology into classrooms as well. Doing so helps students develop the technological skills they need to be successful in the 21st century world of work.

We currently cover the following Murray-area school districts: Calloway County School District and Murray Independent Schools.

Mathematics and Science are very important parts of the curriculum in Murray. Science is a discipline that teaches your child to be inquisitive and use evidence to understand the world. Math has a core set of goals that are taught and assessed. There is a Math and Science program in place to help your child’s teacher to integrate the subjects and to use the best practices available. Chalk Talk: Inquiring Minds Are Learning Minds

Encourage your child to ask questions continually. Some children do this automatically and some have to be encouraged. A child who asks questions learns a lot more than one who is too shy to do so. You can encourage this by asking questions of him or her. Or make a time every day that he or she must ask a question and you will answer it. It’s all about encouragement and making time. A child with an inquiring mind will find learning a pleasure.
