Educating Our Parents: Understanding the New Philadelphia District Curriculum
The math curriculum in New Philadelphia helps students progress in their knowledge and understanding of math concepts from elementary school through high school. The elementary curriculum focuses on the basic foundations of studying math, including mastery of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students also begin to work with fractions at this level. In middle school, students get their first exposure to algebra, and learn to work with and solve equations. Introductory concepts in geometry are also introduced.
A primary component of the New Philadelphia science curriculum is the study of chemistry in high school. Students begin by developing the inquiry skills required for scientific exploration. Students learn to identify questions, design and carry out experiments, and revise models based on evidence. From there, students investigate the structure and properties of matter. They devise an understanding of atoms and atomic structures, the periodic table, and the phases of matter.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Encourage Reading at Home to Build Skills
Reading at home is a critical component of your child’s skills development in language arts and other school subjects. Students that read often have more highly developed language skills, including more expansive vocabularies. Reading provides children with insight into the rules of speech as well, including the usage of proper grammar and spelling, and how to structure sentences effectively. There are benefits in other subject areas as well. Students who read on a regular basis demonstrate improved concentration in social studies, science, math, and art. Frequent readers also have more vivid imaginations and are able to see things from another’s perspective with greater ease. At home, reading can act as a great way for your child to wind down after a long day. Reading before bed has been shown to facilitate sleep quicker and promote better sleep throughout the night.
