Chalk Talk: Why Science Education Is So Important

Science has always been an important component of a well-rounded education. But as our world becomes increasingly technological in nature, the skills emphasized in the pursuit of science are more and more in demand. Specifically, science teaches students to think critically and solve problems. Rather than rote memorization of facts, science focuses on these skills that are important for functioning in all areas of life. The critical thinking skills students acquire while making scientific predictions allow them to think independently, while basing their assumptions on facts. The problem-solving skills students gain while conducting lab experiments give them the confidence to tackle problems in the real world. Science, then, is not just about acquiring knowledge of biology or chemistry; the skills students gain in these classes prepare them for success in later life as well.
