Chalk Talk: Benefits of Gifted Education

The purpose of gifted and talented programming is to offer a challenge to students that demonstrate academic giftedness. These programs are highly beneficial to gifted learners for many reasons. First, the added rigor involved in gifted programs keeps students engaged. Where gifted learners may become bored and disruptive in a regular classroom, a gifted classroom provides them with the academic challenges they need. Second, gifted and talented programs give learners the opportunity to learn with other gifted students, which stimulates further academic growth and development. Lastly, these programs also facilitate social development as gifted learners have the opportunity to interact with other students and develop strong social skills. Students with various academic and artistic talents are well-suited for these enrichment activities which give them greater depth both in and beyond the classroom.
