North Stonington District and Curriculum

The North Stonington Public Schools operates 3 schools including one elementary, one middle school, and one high school. North Stonington Public Schools is located in North Stonington, CT. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Stonington District Curriculum

At the secondary school level, Wheeler Middle and High Schools have curriculum maps in science and social studies in addition to the CCSS in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. School-wide expectations also include becoming effective in writing, reading, speaking, problem solving, and critically thinking. Civic expectations are also taught and include honesty, responsibility, respect, and safety. With student-centered academic and extracurricular programs, the district strives to provide kids with as many valuable learning opportunities as possible.

The social studies curriculum introduces students to many key concepts about society, culture and history. Students also examine key economic issues such as supply and demand, costs and benefits, and long-term investment strategies. Through classroom activities, students develop a better understanding of the stock market and how bull and bear markets differ from one another. Students look at events in America’s economic history, including the Great Depression and the Great Recession.
