Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Valley District Curriculum
The Albuquerque Public School District is completing the implementation of the State approved Common Core State Standards. These curriculum standards set specific goals for students and schools particularly in the areas of Mathematics and English and Language Arts (ELA). Common Core ensures that no matter which school a student attends they will encounter the same set of curriculum standards. In Mathematics students focus on becoming proficient in core math subjects such as computation, measurement, algebra, geometry, proportional reasoning, probability and statistics.
In English and Language Arts students learn to read, write, listen and speak in English. English requirements for fluency are applied to additional coursework including Social Studies, Science, and technology courses. The level of complexity and for both Mathematics and ELA subjects is progressive with students building on the skills they have acquired in the previous year.
