Northampton District and Curriculum
In the Northampton Area School District, students are taught with the goal of their being able to learn core concepts in the areas of reading, writing and math. With this knowledge, they are able to excel in science, social studies, and all other academic disciplines presented to them during their time in the district and beyond. Students begin their study of these Core subjects in Kindergarten and build on that knowledge in depth and breadth as they progress from grade school through high school.
We currently cover the following Northampton-area school district: Northampton Area School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Northampton District Curriculum
Students with special needs are also identified and accommodated in Northampton Area School District. This includes Gifted students and ELL or English Language Learners. They receive necessary supports to keep up with grade level content and during testing situations. Students with any of these or other special needs are evaluated and a specialized learning plan is written up for theses students so that they can be challenged in the best way for them individually.
Throughout their school experience, students are evaluated with PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) and Keystone evaluations and exams to know if students are on track and progressing well. The assessments can show the particular areas of strengths and weaknesses for each student, ensuring they do achieve all the standards. Students who fall short or are struggling in these exams are then able to receive assistance to help them achieve proficiency in all core academic subjects.

Chalk Talk: How to Help Your Child with Math Homework
Many students struggle in math, while many others enjoy it. If your student struggles, there are some things you can do to help. First, resist the urge to do their homework for them. While it might alleviate tears temporarily, your child will not learn the information needed to pass their tests and progress in the future. First of all, have your child study math during the time when they are the most alert and able to learn, whether that’s in the evening after a snack, or in the morning before school. Have them look at the problem not as an enemy, but as a question that needs an answer. Help your child learn to think critically through the problem. Have them identify what they know and what they need to find. Starting there, help them walk step by step through the problem. Give them other problems that are similar for them to practice. If you don’t know how to help them, you can also talk to their teacher or look into tutors in your area.
