Chalk Talk: Going Back to School

Even the students who love school love something else even better – vacation. And whether it’s the short weekend break, spring or Christmas breaks, or the much anticipated summer vacation, the inevitable “back to school day” always rolls around eventually. Monday morning and the first day of school can be a stressful time for both the student and the parent. Not all of the day’s stress can be eliminated, but some can alleviated with some simple steps. On Sunday nights or that last night of vacation the last thing anyone wants to think of is school the next day. But spending just 15 minutes preparing before bed can make mornings that much easier. Encourage students to lay out their outfit for the next day the night before. Have homework collected and the backpack packed and waiting by the door. Pack a hearty lunch and have it ready to go in the refrigerator. These steps can save time and frustration come school day in the morning.
