Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ocean Springs District Curriculum
The Reading program for Ocean Springs begins by introducing children to sight words and the ability to distinguish between similarly spelled words. As time goes on they begin to read specific books to focus on certain aspects. They read “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” to learn about summarizing, and “Tuck Everlasting” to learn about story elements and tools of persuasion. By high school the students are exposed to courses in English Language and Composition and English Literature and Composition as well as advanced classes in each English class.
The Mathematics program is set-up so that each level builds upon the previous one. They begin with geometry basics in kindergarten by learning to identify two- and three-dimensional shapes. Then the students learn to identify different types of triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons and cubes. In the fourth grade the students begin working with Accelerated Math which individualizes math and allows close monitoring of progress. Students also have opportunities to take classes such as calculus, statistics, trigonometry, advanced algebra.

My son’s math marks in high school have always been weak so I found it very beneficial that his ACT tutor worked on solidifying his fundamentals while prepping for the ACT.
SchoolTutoring Academy gave my daughter the confidence she needed to boost her SAT score Thank you!
SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Developing Math Skills
Math is a subject that will be used throughout a child’s life, however, some students seem to have problems understanding math’s concepts. While shopping, cooking, or working on a craft, demonstrate how mathematics helps to get the job done. If a child has problems with multiplication, show how multiplication is repeated additions, so 3 x 4 is the same as 4+4+4. Another way to help the child is to allow them to play with their food, as they manipulate items to show sets of things and how this can be translated into math equations. With a little creative thinking, children can see that math is more than just facts to learn!
