Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Oconomowoc District Curriculum
Keeping up with current classroom practices, the elementary and intermediate staff members have adopted a readers’ workshop system for its reading curriculum, based on the Columbia Teachers’ College Reading and Writing Project. The intermediate school curriculum is intended to meet the developmental needs of young adolescents. While it offers rigorous academic courses, such as English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, music, art, physical education, and technology education, students have access to a variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs.
Oconomowoc High School (OHS) has an abundance of programs for every type of student. Traditional paths include core and electives classes, such as English language arts, agriscience/natural resources, art, marketing, health/physical education, mathematics, performing arts, science, social studies, technology and engineering education, and languages.

Oconomowoc District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD) provides residents across Waukesha, Jefferson, and Dodge Counties with education from 4-year-old kindergarten to grade 12. Recently updated, the OASD instructional staff has designed a curriculum to serve 21st century students. Improvements in the curriculum include updates to the reading, mathematics, and technology programs, in alignment with the Wisconsin Common Core State Standards (CCSS). To ensure all early learners meet reading and mathematics benchmarks, the elementary schools provide students with Intervention Specialists, who work to close achievement gaps in preparation for future academics.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: How to Study Effectively
Studying is not a task that comes easily to every person. It is a task that requires practice and perseverance. The most important step to studying effectively is to identify the objectives; what does the instructor want you to learn? Write down as many objectives as you can find. Next, organize the objectives into categories. Typically, authors of textbooks and other study materials will write in a topical fashion. Look at titles, bold headings, vocabulary words, and other identifiers to classify the information. When you come to a part that requires more explaining or a word you do not know, make sure to mark it and ask the teacher or look it up. After reading the necessary texts, taking notes, and clarifying any misunderstandings, review notes and answer any study questions available. It is good practice to look over your notes to become familiar with the material.
