Oconomowoc District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Oconomowoc Area School District (OASD) provides residents across Waukesha, Jefferson, and Dodge Counties with education from 4-year-old kindergarten to grade 12. Recently updated, the OASD instructional staff has designed a curriculum to serve 21st century students. Improvements in the curriculum include updates to the reading, mathematics, and technology programs, in alignment with the Wisconsin Common Core State Standards (CCSS). To ensure all early learners meet reading and mathematics benchmarks, the elementary schools provide students with Intervention Specialists, who work to close achievement gaps in preparation for future academics.

Chalk Talk: How to Study Effectively

Studying is not a task that comes easily to every person. It is a task that requires practice and perseverance. The most important step to studying effectively is to identify the objectives; what does the instructor want you to learn? Write down as many objectives as you can find. Next, organize the objectives into categories. Typically, authors of textbooks and other study materials will write in a topical fashion. Look at titles, bold headings, vocabulary words, and other identifiers to classify the information. When you come to a part that requires more explaining or a word you do not know, make sure to mark it and ask the teacher or look it up. After reading the necessary texts, taking notes, and clarifying any misunderstandings, review notes and answer any study questions available. It is good practice to look over your notes to become familiar with the material.
