Chalk Talk: Three Reasons Why Your Child Needs to Read More

Reading is a fundamental skill that every person needs to master in order to be able to communicate effectively and operate at their best in the world in which they live. In addition to being a practical skill, reading offers young people many benefits. First, reading is an excellent activity that facilitates relaxation. If your child is overwhelmed with schools, sports, work, or life in general, sitting down for a few minutes to read can be an excellent stress reliever. Second, research shows that reading helps bring on sleep, making it a great bedtime activity for children. Releasing all the worries of the day by taking in a few minutes of a great story helps children achieve a deeper, more restful sleep. Lastly, reading helps facilitate the development of improved vocabulary and expanded reading and writing skills. This, in turn, helps students become more effective communicators both in and out of the classroom.
