Ontario District and Curriculum

Ontario Local Schools is responsible for the K-12 education of students in Ontario and the surrounding areas. The district includes just three schools: one elementary, one middle, and one high school. The individualized attention students receive in Ontario is facilitated by small class sizes. With smaller class sizes comes more one-on-one interaction between students and teachers, leading to improved achievement on classroom assignments and on standardized tests. Students in Ontario are held to a high standard, both in and out of the classroom. Students are expected to work hard, reach their educational goals, and embody the personal characteristics that make people proud to be from Ontario.

We currently cover the following Ontario-area school district: Ontario Local Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ontario District Curriculum

As part of Ontario’s high school science curriculum, students explore concepts in physical science. A primary component of the curriculum is the study of energy and waves. Students explore kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy, as well as the concept of the conservation of energy. Electricity is examined, with learners developing an understanding of how electrons move and how energy is transferred.

Students also study matter. The periodic table is analyzed, with students learning the various elements and their traits. Types of reactions between matter are studied as well, including those of the nuclear and chemical form. Learners identify ways in which to classify matter, including heterogeneous vs. homogeneous, properties of matter, and states of matter. Learners studying physical science examine the concepts of motion and force. Students analyze the magnitude and direction of forces, and also identify the various types of potential energy.

Chalk Talk: Why Kids Need to Read

There are an abundance of reasons why kids need to read and read often. Aside from the fact that the more they read, the better they are at it, students gain deeper insight into the mechanics of vocabulary. With more developed language skills, students also become better speakers and listeners. Reading informs kids about the world in which they live as well. By engaging with a book, students can learn about far away places, events from long ago, and imagine what life will be like in the future. Children that read have improved empathy as well, as the stories they read promote awareness of how others feel and seeing things from a different perspective. Reading is a great tool for relieving stress and calming down as well. In fact, research shows that kids who read before bedtime fall asleep faster and have a more restful night of sleep. With better sleep, students are better prepared the next day to achieve their potential in school.
