Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Oxnard District Curriculum
The math curriculum lays out the areas of numerical operations, geometry and measurement, algebra, and statistics and probability that students will learn about each year. The science curriculum provides a framework for earth and life sciences, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and technology subjects. The Language Arts curriculum covers reading of fiction and non-fiction, writing for a range of purposes, research, speaking, and listening skills.
By designing a curriculum based around standards of knowledge that students will work through yearly, the chance to develop higher order, critical thinking and problem solving skills is offered. Later, as students enter into specialized programs or academies, the curriculum will also be infused with subject matter that is the focus of the program.
