Pahrump District and Curriculum
The Nye County Schools follow a curriculum that is designed to align with the State of Nevada curriculum guidelines. Nevada schools have an excellent STEM program, which includes skills in mathematics, technology, engineering and mathematics, to prepare students for competition in the workforce, which is in desperate need of qualified workers. Language Arts/Literacy is a major foundation of learning and begins in kindergarten where students begin to develop reading and writing skills.
We currently cover the following Pahrump-area school district: Nye County School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pahrump District Curriculum
Students begin learning to read with Phonics, sounding out the letters, then the syllables. Students listen to stories read to them and they are asked to retell certain parts of the story to develop recall skills. They also look at pictures and tell the part of the story the pictures belong to or they draw their own pictures and describe how an event or character of the story is represented.
Math curriculum includes teaching students basic counting skills and number recognition. Students also learn basic Algebra skills using objects to add and subtract in Kindergarten. They learn geometric skills by learning to recognize shapes and sort them into appropriate groupings. Again, like the Language Arts/Literacy curriculum, math skills are increased throughout grade levels by adding new skills to already existing skills. By high school, students are learning more increasingly complex mathematics courses, like advanced Algebra and Geometry, as well as Trigonometry.
