Palestine District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Palestine Independent School District provides students with an education that allows them to become productive citizens. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills is the basis for the curriculum that is used in these schools. It is a standards-based curriculum in which the standards consist of precise learning objectives that students are expected to meet each year. These objectives represent core knowledge, skills and concepts essential to each subject. These students are able to take these skills into the world with them as they enter college or the career of their choice.

We currently cover the following Palestine-area school district: Palestine Independent School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Palestine District Curriculum

Reading and writing are combined in the Language Arts curriculum at Palestine Independent School District. From the time the students begin school they learn to use books that are read to, or by, them as examples of writing to be studied. They learn to pick out settings, characters, voice and genres. They then learn how to place each of these into writings of their own creation. They also learn how to place facts and evidence to back up the facts to make each of their creations relevant.

The Social Studies curriculum at Palestine Independent School District includes the study of geography. Students begin by learning the basics such as near, far, left and right. They then learn other vocabulary that is used as they study maps and countries around the world. The students learn the geographic factors behind borders and settlements. They also learn the cultures of the different people in each of these lands and how they compare and contrast with those that live in their own area. Geography shows students how people are connected through their communities.

Chalk Talk: Careers in Math and Science

When a teen is considering college and careers in math and science, they may have concerns about the type of careers they can expect to find in these areas. In the area of science today, students who have a concern for the environment may want to consider this field where they can study sustainable energies, water conservation and more. If they prefer computers, software engineering is an area that is always growing as the world of technology expands. In the area of mathematics students look in an area that crosses science and math as a clinical data manager. This field helps to collect and analyze data to help in drug tests. Certified Public Accountants also use mathematics when helping with taxes, financial reporting, audits and management. If a student has a desire to use geometry and spatial skills they can look into becoming an architect, whether in the industrial world, natural arenas or others. With this sampling of careers, students that enjoy science and math can see that there is a world of opportunities for them.
