Paradise Valley District and Curriculum

With Arizona’s rigorous College and Career Ready Program, schools are tasked with providing the same rigorous approach to curriculum that aligns with the state’s requirements. The state of Arizona is committed to preparing all of its students with the abilities they will need to be able to compete in college and careers when they graduate. By graduation, students have learned the skills of communication and problem-solving across subjects and these skills will ensure that they are ready for college and employment.

We currently cover the following Paradise Valley-area school district: Paradise Valley Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Paradise Valley District Curriculum

The English/Language Arts curriculum begins by teaching letter recognition and sounds. Students learn listening skills by hearing stories and testing comprehension by drawing pictures that go along with the stories and answering simple questions. They learn to write their names and to write the letters of the alphabet. The skills learned are built upon with each passing grade and students learn to use reading, writing and comprehension skills that help them to achieve academic success.

The Mathematics program, again, begins in kindergarten, teaching the basic recognition of numbers, along with counting and sorting skills. The basics of algebra and geometry are taught as students learn to recognize shapes, sorting into like groups. Using objects, students learn to add and subtract. These basic skills are added to each following grade, preparing students for the higher forms of math they will learn in high school. The critical thinking and problem solving skills learned while in school are meant to ensure student success in college and employment upon graduation.

Chalk Talk: Should I Homeschool My Child?

If you are considering homeschooling your child you need to first consider a few important facts. Ask yourself why you are thinking about homeschooling. Are you dissatisfied with the school system in your area? If so, have you discussed your issues with your child's teachers or with school administrators? Also, check the homeschooling options in your area. Is there a good homeschool organization that meets and provides peer relationships for your child? Some schools have implemented plans that allow some students to receive public education through the Internet at home. If you do decide on homeschooling you need to be prepared to follow district guidelines and to purchase the school materials from a reputable homeschool provider. You also need to consider the amount of your day that will have to revolve around homeschooling. In the end, the choice is yours, but always make informed decisions. You have to go into an endeavor like this with a plan in place and with some flexibility.
