Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Paragould District Curriculum

The core curriculum of Math, Science, English and History is enhanced by classes in music, art, computers, and physical education. Greene County Tech School District has developed responsibilities for parents, students, the school, and teachers to improve student attendance and academic progress. Teachers provide weekly folders to parents with work samples and a newsletter that indicates classwork and school events. Routine progress reports and report cards also keep parents informed about their children’s academic strengths and weaknesses.

Paragould School District’s three elementary schools are magnet schools that emphasize math, technology and international studies, health, wellness, and environmental science, and visual and performing arts. The middle school students are divided into two teams, and rotate classes within these groupings for Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and History/Social Studies.

Chalk Talk: Cooking with Children

Teaching children to cook is valuable because it is a skill that they will use throughout their lives. Beginning cooking lessons when children are young will help them learn to be creative and enjoy working in the kitchen. To make cooking activities fun, here are a few suggestions:

  • Plan the cooking activity and be sure that you have all of the ingredients and equipment which will be needed
  • Set up a work area that is safe for children and supervise them at all times
  • Read all directions together. This gives children practice in reading and following instructions
  • Let children measure so they can practice math skills
  • Include your children in cooking often and create family fun and memories around this wonderful activity!
