Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pasadena District Curriculum
Each student that graduates from the district has an expansive knowledge of what is needed to be an excellent writer. They begin by learning how to create letters in kindergarten, then they go on to learn what the different rules of grammar are and the format needed for the type of writing being created. They also learn about expository, informational and letter-writing, in addition to other types. When they graduate they will have written on a variety of topics which they have researched and edited.
The Social Studies curriculum at Pasadena Independent School District shows students how this subject is important to the students’ lives. To begin, the students learn about the world around them, including the community helpers and the people that it takes to run the school and the city. After these people have been introduced to the students, they then go on to see the roles of government in the county, state, country and even in other countries.

Chalk Talk: Fifth Grade Language Arts
Fifth grade students, even though some of them are the oldest students in their building, still have so much to learn about language arts. During this year they will complete many book reports and complete many tests. Each state may vary in their expectation in fifth grade language arts, but overall fifth grade students will learn how to spell many additional words, write coherently and with structure. They also become more comfortable with revising and editing after receiving advice from others. They become more comfortable deciphering words using the strategies that they have learned. Relying on their past education, these students will have a sense of comfort as they add onto their educational foundation.
