Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pascagoula District Curriculum

Social Studies begins in first few years of school, when the children learn facts about famous people, along with geography terms, such as land forms, and the parts of a map, which will follow them as they continue on throughout their schooling. The basics in Social Studies are added to as they begin, in fifth grade, to learn about explorers and how to write about the past. Later, they expand their borders to learn about other geographical places, and economic and political systems.

In elementary science, children learn about the variety of materials which make up soil as well as the different phases of the moon. In the middle school years, the students begin to learn about the hands-on part of science that occurs in the lab as they study about matter, energy and the environment. This lays a foundation for students to further their studies in the areas of physical science, biology or even chemistry.

Pascagoula District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Pascagoula Public Schools arm their students with the knowledge that they need to fulfill the motto of the schools, “Destination Graduation.” To meet this goal, the school has four out of five accreditation levels from the Mississippi Department of Education Office of Accreditation. The district uses a framework series of curriculum for subject area learning which guides elementary through secondary education within each subject.

We currently cover the following Pascagoula-area school district: Pascagoula School District.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Social Studies

Although much attention is focused on Math, Science and Literacy within the schools, Social Studies is also an important subject for students and their learning process. It provides them with a sense of history and contemporary issues, exposes them to different cultures and ways of life, and allows them to research parts of the world that they are interested in. Social Studies combines fields of history, sociology, economics and politics, and helps students to become well-rounded across the board.
