Pataskala District and Curriculum
Pataskala public school students attend classes in the Southwest Licking Local School District. Students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade take part in educational and extracurricular activities designed to promote the development of academic, social, and emotional skills. The district’s current emphasis is on accommodating the rapidly growing student population. An additional area of improvement is in curriculum and teacher preparation to address the diverse needs of the district’s students.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pataskala District Curriculum
Pataskala’s English language arts curriculum helps students develop communication skills related to reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The speaking and listening component of the curriculum promotes the ability to engage in meaningful classroom discussions. Students learn how to actively listen, using visual cues to convey their understanding to a speaker. Students also learn how to pose and respond to questions in a manner that adds to the depth of classroom discussion.
The music curriculum in Pataskala includes both instrumental and vocal music studies. The elementary curriculum focuses on the development of basic music skills. Students learn about rhythm and how to match the rhythm, beat, and meter of a song. Learners collaborate with one another to produce music, developing an understanding of their role in the overall performance of a piece. Students also learn about basic musical notation, and acquire the ability to translate that notation into musical performance.
