Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pauls Valley District Curriculum
The district curriculum follows the Oklahoma Common Core Curriculum, which is intended to provide all students with a quality, competitive education, regardless of learning style differences. The curriculum is rigorous but also offers support for students with different learning styles, including interventions, so that all students are given opportunities for success and achievement. Students must also respect and celebrate diversity within their community so that they will be successful in our increasingly global environment.
Students must be science and technology literate to compete. Critical thinking and analytical writing skills are stressed in the classroom, as well, so that students have an orderly way of thinking and presenting their ideas. Many special interest clubs are also offered in the belief that involvement outside the classroom, not only in academic interests, but in arts, music, and athletics, will promote health and happiness in students.

I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: School Profiles
One major concern of college applicants is that a college will compare them unfairly to other applicants. To combat this, school include a school profile with the transcript and application packet. The profile tells the college how to read the transcript; it gives insight into what classes are offered at the school, for example, to clarify what opportunities the applicant had to challenge him/herself. The profile also clarifies the rigor of the high school, as well as the size, and other factors, which all give perspective to the college when making their decision. The profile even covers things like average SAT and ACT scores, as well as colleges attended in the last few years. This gives the college insight into the environment of the school. The thing to keep in mind is that colleges want to accept students, they want to fill their classes, so these insights can really help an applicant achieve that.
