Pekin District and Curriculum
The curriculum is predicated upon the belief that all students should have equal opportunities for education based on their needs and abilities in order to enable them to reach their maximum potential. Despite decreasing public resources, the school members strive to achieve continued access to a quality, diversified education in a cooperative, professional school environment which promotes student achievement. All students should also have the opportunity to enhance their curricular activities through participation in extra-curricular activities.
We currently cover the following Pekin-area school districts: Pekin Public Schools 108 and Pekin Community High School.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pekin District Curriculum
The school attempts to provide a learning environment that will increase all levels of student achievement. This includes improving student learning through the use of Illinois Common Core Learning Standards as well as local curricular development and having programs that match the goals, expectations, and financial ability of the district. The curriculum also includes offsite traditional and nontraditional educational opportunities in order to embrace each individual student’s talents and natural abilities.
The goal of the curriculum is to provide a school environment in which students learn the skills to become proficient information seekers and critical analyzers of that information. In becoming more adept at locating and analyzing information, students utilize knowledge creatively rather than acquire it passively. This encourages students to become active learners who explore, plan their own goals, strategize and assess, are self-directed, and are strong problem solvers.

- Guidance Services - The Pekin Community High School Guidance department offers many resources for students. Whether students need information for college or academic support, the Guidance department is available in person or online.
- Summer Camps - Pekin High School offers several summer camps for its student athletes. Boys Basketball, Girls Cross Country, and many other sports are available. These are available to students of different age levels and interests.
- Student Newspaper - Pekin High School journalism class produces the Pekinois, the school’s newspaper. The Pekinois covers sports, activities, and school related issues and events. It is also now available online for anyone to read!

A common scare tactic used by parents and professionals is that students must be very wary about what information and especially pictures they post on social networking sites like Instagram or Twitter. The threat is that colleges will see what the student has posted and, if it’s something negative, reject that student’s application. The reality is that most colleges receive thousands of applications, and the admissions staff simply doesn’t have time to check each applicant’s Facebook page, or what have you. But if something bad does come to their attention, it absolutely could influence their decision. The larger concern, here, is that this information is out there for anyone to find, namely, future employers. A company seeking an employee might absolutely check that applicant’s social networking profiles, and frequently do, depending on the company, itself. An even more dangerous reality is that someone who might want to take advantage of a young person can easily access some social networking sites. This is a very real, immediate concern to consider.
