Chalk Talk: How Technology Is Used in Education
We live in a highly technological world, so K-12 students need to learn how to utilize technology for educational and career purposes. With that in mind, many school districts have implemented programs to bring technology into the classroom, or have adopted 1:1 technology initiatives to provide children with laptops or tablets. Doing so extends the time and space of learning, so children can learn at virtually any time of day – they are no longer bound by class time or classroom walls in terms of what and when they learn. Technology also places the onus of responsibility on children to learn, be responsible, and be good consumers of information. All of these characteristics are important both for education and for career purposes. The collaborative tools that technology present are also highly educational. Students not only learn how to utilize technology to work with others toward a common goal, they also develop an understanding of how technology can be used to transmit ideas and present information.
