Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Perry Heights District Curriculum
The high school geometry curriculum introduces students to a wide variety of geometric practices. Learners work with circles, identifying arc lengths and area. Students also develop an understanding of circular theorems and learn to apply them. Measurement and dimension are other critical components of the curriculum. Volume formulas are introduced, which students use to solve problems. Learners acquire the ability to visualize relationships between 2-D and 3-D objects as well. Congruence is another primary topic in geometry. Students experiment with planar transformation and learn to prove geometric theorems.
Students in Perry Heights study business law as part of the financial literacy curriculum. As part of their studies, students examine various legal matters, including the structure and function of the U.S. Constitution and the protections it offers to citizens of this country. Through this lens, learners develop an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of businesses, business owners, and consumers. Students explain the necessity of consumer protection laws, as well as the need for government regulation of current business practices.

Chalk Talk: How a Flipped Classroom Benefits Students
Flipped classrooms have gained popularity in recent years as access to technology has improved. Teachers can now easily assign students pre-reading or other activities to do at home before beginning a unit of study at school. By getting kids engaged in exploration of a subject before studying it in class, teachers essentially put students into the teacher role. Working to devise an understanding of the material on their own time gives students ownership of their learning. Their active involvement in the process means that students are much more likely to retain information as well. Once in class, students already have a working understanding of the topic, allowing for a far more in-depth examination of the material. Students can participate in discussions with one another or with their teacher, rather than sitting passively through a lecture or a similar activity. Flipped classrooms also often utilize tablets, laptops, the Internet, and other modern technologies, which give students access to a wealth of information they might not otherwise have.
