The TEKS details what students are expected to learn in English Language Arts and Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Languages Other Than English, the Arts, Health, Physical Education, and Career Development. The district also relies on a College and Career Readiness Skills framework that emphasizes traits such as collaboration, creative thinking, and the ability to join in with community organizations. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Perryton District Curriculum

The Science curriculum at Perryton Independent School District develops skills for scientific inquiry in students as well as their overall scientific literacy. During elementary and middle school, students are instructed in various strands of science such as matter and energy, motion and force, earth and space, and organisms and environments. They learn about proper laboratory safety procedures and how scientists develop theories and work to prove their veracity. In high school, the courses cover more specific aspects of science.

Part of the high school science curriculum involves learning about the field of chemistry. Students conduct laboratory experiments and learn how to work with the scientific method. They study the Periodic Table, atomic theory and chemical bonding, and characteristics of matter. Students also study chemical reactions, describing them as processes of double or single replacement, synthesis, combustion, or decomposition. They also learn how cycles, structures, and processes interact and how to communicate their understanding of these topics.

Chalk Talk: Encouraging Honesty in Children

The temptation to cheat or lie surrounds children every day. To help instill honesty in a child, parents need to model this behavior. Children look to their parents as role models so if a parent deceives another to receive a discount, a child may see this as acceptable behavior and take it on themselves. Parents also need to be aware of difficult situations where a lie would be easier than the truth. If the child tells the truth it is important that they receive praise from their parent. If the child is caught telling a lie, it is important that the parent does not over-react. Calmly think about the motive for the lie. After it has been thought out, gently pull the child aside and quietly talk with the child about why they chose to lie. Honest communication is important and by demonstrating and talking about this characteristic, it may become easier for the child to talk truthfully.
