The Alabama Standards of Learning are the curriculum used in the local schools and it is designed so that student learning moves through a continuum, bringing about higher order abilities in each subject. Significant emphasis is placed on English and Math, with the goal of developing broad literacy and problem-solving abilities for students. Science is also central to learning, and increasingly enhanced by opportunities to use and learn about technology.

In Science, the students are exposed to challenging scientific concepts starting in elementary school. They begin to do hands-on experiments with materials and dissections. Students are encouraged to think for themselves and discover more scientific concepts on their own, following the scientific method. With the gifted education opportunities, field trips, and the teacher using the best teaching methods, students are provided with a range of in-roads into their scientific studies.
