Plainview District and Curriculum

Plainview’s students attend public school in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. The primary mission of the district is to provide an environment that is academically challenging and engaging. Students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade take part in educational activities that focus on their academic, social, and emotional development. Children acquire the necessary skills to be successful and contributing members of society, while also learning about the world in which they live and gaining an appreciation for those unlike themselves. In a district of over 5,000 students, children acquire these skills and personal qualities in classrooms that have small student-to-teacher ratios, and in schools that offer plenty of room to learn and explore.

Chalk Talk: Writing an Impactful College Essay

The college essay is an extremely important component of the application materials. It is an opportunity for applicants to convey their personality and explain why their experiences and achievements make them an excellent candidate for admission. However, the process of writing the essay can be overwhelming for many kids. To ensure their essay is of the highest quality, students need to keep it short. This isn’t to say they should gloss over details, rather, they should be concise in addressing all aspects of the essay prompt. It is also important for students to write in a manner that is easy to read and features a coherent flow from one idea to the next. Admissions officers will not view kindly an essay that is poorly written. College applicants should also strive to bring individuality to their essay. In a sea of essays, admissions officers are looking for something that is impactful and stands out. Writing from one’s unique perspective using vivid language and details can do just that.
