Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plattsburgh District Curriculum
In the Plattsburgh City School District students follow the state prescribed Common Core Curriculum which stresses the basics of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and math fundamentals of computation, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. In all coursework the focus is on developing skills students can apply to real world situations. The Common Core Curriculum is geared at ensuring that students across New York State have access to the same quality educational experience.
At the elementary level, students also have access to learning keyboarding and computer skills, and a full health education program. In middle school, there is an interdisciplinary approach to teaching with individualized curriculum for gifted students, and extensive technology and computer coursework. Plattsburgh Senior High School offers more complex academic training to help prepare students for further education and the work force. Qualified students can participate in a study arrangement with SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College.
