Plattsburgh District and Curriculum

The Plattsburgh City School District serves more than 2,000 students in their five schools. The Common Core Curriculum is used and supports students’ preparation for the New York State Regent’s Exam. The district prides itself on offering an educational experience complete with a focus on integrating technology with traditional classroom experience.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plattsburgh District Curriculum

In the Plattsburgh City School District students follow the state prescribed Common Core Curriculum which stresses the basics of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and math fundamentals of computation, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. In all coursework the focus is on developing skills students can apply to real world situations. The Common Core Curriculum is geared at ensuring that students across New York State have access to the same quality educational experience.

At the elementary level, students also have access to learning keyboarding and computer skills, and a full health education program. In middle school, there is an interdisciplinary approach to teaching with individualized curriculum for gifted students, and extensive technology and computer coursework. Plattsburgh Senior High School offers more complex academic training to help prepare students for further education and the work force. Qualified students can participate in a study arrangement with SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College.

Keeping Informed: Recent Plattsburgh Educational News

  • Parent's Night Out - The Bailey Avenue Elementary School, part of the Plattsburgh City School District, offers a night out experience for their student’s parents. The all volunteer program provides a night for parents to enjoy time for shopping or a dinner out while the students are involved in fun activities. The three hour Parent’s Night Out program is run on a monthly basis.
  • Parent Luncheon Day - Oak Street Elementary School invites parents to have lunch with their children at the Oak Street School once a month. The Parent Luncheon Day occurs on the 2nd Friday of each month. Parents are encouraged to attend. The lunches are served in the Oak Street cafeteria. Parents are also invited to have lunch with their child at any time they would just need to let the school office know ahead of time.
  • Track News - The Plattsburgh High School track team came in third at a recent track meet of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference with a score of 78. The Sentinels track team took first place with 133 points and Saranac came in second with 109. The girls Plattsburgh track team, however, came in first place at the Athletic Conference. The girls’ total score was 126. Saranac came in second with 108.
