The K-12 Mathematics framework contains learning objectives which consists of material on data and probability concepts. The students are instructed on how to use line plots, show the data in different ways, such as tables, bar graphs, and pictographs. In addition to this, the students are instructed on how to come to conclusions based on a variety of data, and to find the mean, median, mode, as well as the range for a whole-numbered set.
In Language Arts, the students are taught how to use the process of writing to brainstorm and plan, make a rough draft, revise and edit, and publish the final piece of work. Students are also given the strategies to generate a topic, a thesis statement, and write in a proper, flowing format that makes sense to the reader. Identifying their purpose for writing is also important; they are to choose among the purposes of entertainment, giving information to the reader, or persuasion.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the In-Class Counselor
Some classrooms have counselors, or Day Treatment Staff, that provide services to a particular child or children in need of behavior modification. Teachers that have students within the class which have difficulty with behavior tend to become very frustrated, as it is difficult to teach the whole classroom with a disruptive child. That is where the counselor comes in! The In-Class Counselor sits with and monitors the child and redirects the child in order for the classroom to continue learning in a calm, quiet environment. The In-Class counselor is also an advocate for the child, and this really helps the student’s self-esteem. Many school systems offer some type of in-class or in-school counseling to enable the school system meets the needs of every child.
