Plum District and Curriculum
The Plum Borough School District adheres to Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements for all of their school courses and curriculum. Providing all courses as well as opportunities for students who may need a different learning path such as special education, gifted and talented programs, and a rigorous career technical program, Plum Borough School District takes seriously their responsibility to educate their students.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plum District Curriculum
Plum Borough School District also focuses on core requirements all through the class grades. In their Math courses they focus not only on the quantity of information learned, but also on the depth of information learned. This allows students to focus and apply what is being learned instead of jumping from topic to topic as test prep classes can tend to do. The focus for their math program includes fulfilling state requirements and passing PSSA and Keystone exams. For later grades, AP and college credit courses are offered for students.
In their Physical Education courses, Plum Borough School District focuses not only on sporting activities but on lifetime physical education skills such as incorporating physical activity into daily activities as well as weight lifting and classes such as yoga and Pilates. In their health program, they talk through physical, mental, and emotional health, teaching students how to live safely, how to cope with tough situations and stress, and how to choose positive behaviors.

- Plum Borough School District Offers Physical Education Summer Program - During the month of June, Plum Borough School District is offering a summer program for students that will teach various physical fitness classes to specified grades including swimming, weight training, basketball, volleyball, and others.
- Students Put Together Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt - Junior High and High School students from Plum Borough School District received donations of plastic eggs and candy from the community to put together an egg hunt for young children in April. This is the ninth year this egg hunt has been put on. Good job, students!
- Junior High Volleyball Team Competes to Raise Funds - Put together by the junior high volleyball moms, Junior High girls’ volleyball team from Oblock Junior High competed against the junior high boys’ basketball team as well as faculty to raise funds for the Allyson Higdon Memorial Trust. They raised more than $1500 for the organization.

Chalk Talk: Why Study Public Speaking?
Many schools in either high school and/or college require students to take speech class. It is often a dreaded topic that most students would likely never take if it wasn’t required. So why is it a valuable requirement? Speech classes teach lessons that no other class can teach in quite the same way. Instead of telling a student “ok, it’s time for you to write a 30 minute speech” without any teaching at all, speech class provides a safe environment for students to learn and practice the art of speaking. This is not only useful for those who have careers in which they will need to run board meetings. This is valuable for anyone who will ever be in an interview or anyone who will need to get the attention of a person or group of people that they may or may not be comfortable with. Speech class equips students with the tools to be ready to communicate effectively in many situations both in large groups and small. For these reasons and many more, speech class is considered beneficial for students.
