The English curriculum focuses on literacy, communication, and media awareness. Students use many different types of texts to learn how to analytically read, and develop their abilities to write through assignments like reflective journals and expository essays.
The broad goals of preparing students for their future academic and career goals are provided for by offering students both rigorous, core academics and opportunities such as a Fine Arts Program or an Outdoor Education Program that engage many students and provide them with a clear idea of their academic goals and future pursuits. The abilities that students develop in these courses are used in all pursuits that students will take during their educational development.

Standardized test scores function similarly to the transcript and are intended to give insight into how prepared the student is for college classes. Thankfully, high schools today are better preparing students for college, as they are requiring them to write more, having them use more critical thinking skills, and offering more college-level courses.
