The standards followed have been developed by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

We currently cover the following Ponca-area school district: Ponca City School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ponca District Curriculum

In English Language Arts, the students will work on fluency by reading at a pace that will help them focus on the meaning of the text, rather than focusing on each individual word, which can take away from comprehension. The teachers will give the students opportunities to read aloud independently on their level by providing a variety of books. The students will practice their reading fluency and expression with the instructor during small group instruction, with text that is challenging, yet manageable for the student.

In Mathematics, in number sense and operation, the students in the elementary grades learn about concepts of place value. The students will use base ten blocks, manipulatives in groups of ten, and place value mats to learn about the material. The learners will learn the place value from the ones place up to the ten-thousandths place in the elementary grades (middle elementary) and will manipulate and solve problems using concepts learned from place value.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the Early Intervention Specialist

The Early Intervention Specialist is usually a teacher, either in school or home-based, who helps the students be ready for a pre-school program (usually a four-year old class) or kindergarten. When a parent or evaluator recommends a child to see an early intervention specialist, it is usually because of some sort of delay or delays, such as in speech or motor skill development, or some other cognitive or physical delay. The early intervention specialist is usually employed by the public school system, and is able to assess and help the child get on track in order to be ready for school.
