Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Port Clinton District Curriculum
Students in Port Clinton gain the skills necessary to be excellent speakers, listeners, writers, and readers as part of the district’s English language arts curriculum. Learners work on developing the ability to critically read a piece of text and make inferences about the author’s intended meaning. Students learn how to identify a text’s theme, main ideas, and supporting details as well. Theme development is a central point of study as well, with students identifying the various means by which authors move a story along and develop characters.
Port Clinton’s visual and performing arts curriculum includes a study of music. Students in choir and band classes learn about the structure of music and how composers build various sounds in order to create their musical vision. The way in which music is written is explored, with students identifying how rhythm, tone, beat, and words work together to convey emotions and ideas.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Social Media as a Learning Tool
Parents and teachers alike spend a good deal of time worrying about how much time kids spend on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media networks. While this concern is certainly warranted, there are a number of educational benefits that social media present for students. Teachers can engage students in activities like research of current events by exploring trending topics on Twitter. Twitter is also useful as a communication tool for teachers. They can create hashtags for students to keep track of certain topics or to submit ideas or responses to homework. Facebook is a great communication tool as well. Students can use it to engage with students in other states or nations, or use it to contact respected experts in science, math, social studies, and other school subjects. To bring studies to life, teachers can utilize Instagram or YouTube. Studies show that pictures and videos are extremely useful in helping students better understand complex concepts.
