Chalk Talk: How the International Baccalaureate Program Is Unique

The International Baccalaureate Program offers high school students a less traditional but still academically rigorous education. It is organized differently than the traditional high school curriculum, and students must complete a certain number of specified credit requirements to fulfill an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Students are required to take courses in English Literature, a foreign language (French, Spanish, Japanese or Mandarin), courses on Individuals and Societies comprising economics, geography or history, at least one Math course, and an experimental science course covering biology, chemistry or physics. Students must also take a Theory of Knowledge course to receive an IB Diploma and there are also electives in fine arts and film. Over the years, this curricular program has become very popular with students planning on attending college.
