Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Port Jervis District Curriculum

The overall goal for students is to be literate in English and Language Arts, Math and have a wide educational experience in a variety of subjects including History, Social Studies and Science. The basics of the Literacy program is centered on developing reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities. Students learn through a progression of increasingly challenging tasks including reading both informational text and literature and the development of critical analysis abilities to evaluate what they have read.

In Mathematics, students focus in on a set number of mathematical subjects including computation, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics and build on these skills in each grade level. The goal is to have an in depth understanding of the core of mathematical skills so students can apply what they have learned to more difficult math problems with speed, accuracy and confidence.
