Price District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Carbon School District, like all school districts in Utah, are in the process of implementing the new Utah Core Standards. The goals of the Utah Core Standards are to make sure that students have mastered basic skills and are able to apply them in their lives after high school, whether they pursue further education or move directly into the workforce. In order to serve these goals, the entire educational curriculum is focused on making sure that students can apply the skills they learn to concrete problems.

We currently cover the following Price-area school district: Carbon School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Price District Curriculum

Reading skills are not merely used in English Language Arts classes, but are developed in Science, History, and elective courses, where students are asked to demonstrate that they can understand how texts work and that they can explain what they have read and apply information from it to new situations. Similarly, the emphasis in math is not on rote performance of operations, but on being able to understand what the principles underlying the specific problem, and being able to use mathematics to solve real problems.

The curriculum is designed so that skills are introduced early and reinforced frequently, in order to make sure that students have multiple chances to master a concept. In Mathematics, for instance, students are taught the basic principles behind algebra, statistics, and geometry beginning in first grade, and begin to use variables in their math classes in sixth grade, to ensure that they will be well-prepared to succeed in the integrated mathematics programs in high school and at higher math.

Written reports and essays build necessary logical skills that help you think better and practice proving the points you want to make. They also are the best way to reinforce your understanding of grammar, spelling, the technical elements of writing, and the factual material that you are learning. Finally, written assignments are perfect training for all of the writing you will have to do in your career, or in college. Time put into becoming a good writing is time well-spent for your educational and career success.
