Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Puslinch District Curriculum
In English, literacy skills are developed so that students can read across genres and subjects. Communication and personal expression are also emphasized and students are given the chance to develop a voice in which they can express complex ideas. The History and Social Studies curriculum ranges across eras and geographic locations and emphasizes major concepts such as government, economics and social change. Students are able to develop their academic research skills in this subject as well.
The Math curriculum calls upon students to learn basics in numeracy, algebra, geometry, and data analysis so that they have a range of problem-solving strategies, mathematical reasoning, and computational thinking skills. In Science, the curriculum covers life science, chemistry and physics, earth and space, the environment and ecosystems, and technology. Students are expected to develop mathematical and scientific literacy and to be able to use the problem-solving and observational strategies they learn in each subject.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: The Student Success Initiative
The Student Success Initiative has been taken on in all districts across the province and offers students academic opportunities that are meant to be exciting and create clear pathways to graduation. Different programs like the High Skills Specialist Major, Cooperative Education, and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) are a part of this Initiative, which is available to students beginning as early as grade 7 in some districts and available to all students beginning in grade 9. Although these programs are highly popular, for students who want to have a traditional academic experience without entering one of these programs, the core curriculum is designed to provide students a clear path to college and many other post-secondary work and learning opportunities.
