Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Queen Creek District Curriculum
The broad-based and comprehensive curriculum is aligned to the Core State Standards as set forth by the Arizona Department of Education in all subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education & Health, Computers & Technology, and the Arts. Queen Creek has also been on the cutting edge of technology and has placed in every classroom computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors and video equipment.
The focus on Math and Literacy is a main feature of students’ educational experience. They are expected to develop comprehension and analytic abilities for texts of all styles and problem-solving skills applicable to practical and conceptual math. The standards for learning focus in on the necessary grade-level skills in these areas, and support each subject’s connections with other core academic areas.

- Queen Creek Elementary New Running Club - In an effort to get children moving and more active, Queen Creek Elementary School has started a new Running Club. Nearly 100 students arrived for their first meeting where their coach explained how important it is to have fun through physical activity. Their first run was a quarter mile course around the track, where each student collected a popsicle stick at the completion of each lap. The sticks can be turned in to the coach at the end of practice for tokens which can be added to a running club necklace. The coach hopes that the tokens will help motivate the students to run and stay physically active.
- Candle Fundraiser for Desert Mountain Student - Desert Mountain Elementary School in the Queen Creek Unified School District recently hosted a special fundraiser. One of the second grade students was diagnosed with an illness, could no longer attend classes at the school, and would be instructed by a visiting teacher. The student council members of Desert Mountain organized a Gold Canyon Candle Fundraiser to raise funds for this second grade student and his family. They sold candles for several weeks and finally gifted the family with a donation of $3,224 from the fundraiser. Congratulations on a job well done to the student council members and the students at Desert Mountain.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: The Necessity of Physical Education at all Grade Levels
With the rapid progress of computers, cell phones, electronic games and hand-held devices, our children have become less active. Because they are less active and getting less exercise, our children weigh more and have less energy. However, good eating habits, physical activity and exercise are keys to good health, all of which can be taught in Physical Education Classes. Children need to learn how important it is to be active, how to eat correctly, and how to be healthy through adulthood. Unfortunately, many schools in the country are losing funding and oftentimes, special classes such as PE and arts are the first to be cut. However, studies have shown children are more focused more cooperative and perform better academically when there are hours during the week for physical activity, supporting the idea that Physical Education Class is a necessary part of a child’s curriculum in all grade levels.
