Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ralston District Curriculum

In grades K-12, the Mathematics learning standards embrace the skills of sorting, classifying, and ordering various objects by a certain rule that is set, either by them or by the instructions. Identifying and creating relationships will also be carried across all disciplines. Students will also use various objects to represent situations in our world of mathematics, such as addition and subtraction of concrete items. These skills build so that students are prepared to handle algebra, geometry, statistics and pre-calculus in high school.

In Reading, the K-12 curriculum guides contain material such as identifying, locating, and evaluating information. The students practice finding appropriate sources to find information for writing and research, and they find a variety of ways to show this: digitally, visually, and by way of text. They also identify what a reliable source would be for a given topic of research, and practice using a variety of sources that are relevant to the subject area and the thesis statement.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the Library Assistant

The Library Assistant works in the school library and keeps things in order for the Head Librarian. The assistant checks in and checks out books to the children, helps children on the computers with interactive reading programs, keeps the library neat and orderly, reads stories to students, shelves books that have been returned, checks out equipment to teachers, and helps maintain the organization of electronic resources. A library assistant is an individual that is very appreciated in the school!
