Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ramsey District Curriculum
The curriculum has been developed to offer learning experiences that will prepare all students for success in their post-secondary educational or career pursuits. Students receive a well-rounded education, rooted in the recommendations of the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. These standards identify learning targets at each grade level for what students should know and be able to demonstrate in all content areas.
A primary focus of the curriculum is preparing students to be active and engaged members of our globalized 21st Century society. As such, students undertake an intensive study of 21st Century skills that are required for success in careers as well as in life. An important component of this is the cross-cultural understanding and interpersonal communication strand. Students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct effective interpersonal communication, both in face-to-face and online situations. Students learn about cultural differences, particularly with regard to nuances in communication.

Chalk Talk: How Art Makes Kids Better Students
The benefits of art education extend well beyond facilitating students’ creativity. Elementary-aged students who take art classes demonstrate a marked improvement in reading ability. High school-aged art students perform better on the ACT test than their peers who do not actively engage in art classes. Art students demonstrate higher capacities for geometric reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving as well. What’s more, art fosters the development of enhanced attention skills, engagement in class, creative vision and persistence in the face of adversity. All in all, art education has wide-reaching positive impacts on the education and development of children.
