Redmond District and Curriculum

Redmond School District uses the Common Core Standards for Language Arts and Math as a foundation for a curriculum that helps each student to achieve a successful education. These standards have been adopted by most states in the nation as they represent the most coherent expression of how to build core knowledge from the basics through to the higher order thinking skills required in post-secondary life. The standards progress in such a way that by the end of high school students are capable of doing the type of complex work expected at college.

We currently cover the following Redmond-area school district: Redmond School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Redmond District Curriculum

Science is taught by introducing the children to the world in general terms, such as the seasons or the water cycle. Students at Redmond School District also learn about animal adaptations, ecology and cells. They learn how to use the tools required in laboratory plus they learn how to research and write up science experiments. These student learn to look at the world with a scientific view of how the world works.

The five domains of Mathematics are taught throughout the Redmond School District. These domains include counting and cardinality; operations and algebraic thinking; number and operations in base ten; number and operations-fractions; measurement and data; and geometry. The basics are taught in kindergarten as students learn how to assign each item in a set a number. They then continue on with additions, subtraction, multiplication and division. When they graduate, students are able to face the world as problem solvers.

Chalk Talk: Team Sports

Sports seem to surround parents and children. From their first t-ball game to high school athletics, they seem to take up much of the child’s extra time. Team sports also have many benefits. When a child is part of a team, there is no room for egos. Children learn how to work together to reach a goal. When the students have a positive, dedicated coach, they can learn what it means to be a mentor by watching one at work. As they practice for their sports, the also realize the importance of persistence, patience and practice, not only in sports but also with other parts of their lives, such as schoolwork. The skills that the child learns can lead them through the rest of their lives, in a positive way.
