Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Redwood Falls District Curriculum

High school social studies students in Redwood Falls participate in a curriculum that includes a study of basic economic principles. Students outline future financial goals and determine ways by which those goals can be achieved. This includes examining various means of producing income, such as employment, investments, and passive incomes. Learners also identify factors that influence how money is invested, including risk and return, as well as the interest rates available on various investments.

The visual and performing arts curriculum in Redwood Falls helps students develop the skills necessary for performing vocal or instrumental music. Students work on their ability to read music with proficiency, including music on both the treble and bass clef. Learners become accustomed to following the directions of a conductor, but also develop the ability to improvise when it is called for. A number of types of music are explored, with musicians becoming adept at tailoring their performance to the genre of music being presented.

Chalk Talk: Two Ways to Help Your Freshman Find Success

Transitioning from middle school to high school is a difficult task. Increased academic expectations, more homework, and a new social structure are just a few of the sources of stress for many incoming freshmen. However, there are several things you can do to help your child be successful. Primary among them is to communicate early and often with your child’s teachers. Maintaining communication will help you stay on top of any academic or behavioral issues that arise, and the relationships you build with your child’s teachers will go a long way in forming a positive support system throughout his or her high school career. Another great way to help your freshman to be successful is to remind them of your expectations. Continuing to expect the best from them in and out of the classroom will help them stay on track.
