Richmond Hill’s schools use the Ontario Curriculum which is standards-based, student-centered and comprehensive in its course and program offerings. The curriculum was designed to ensure that all students have an engaging education that provides them with a solid foundation in academic knowledge and opportunities to explore areas of enrichment. Students are able to pursue independent studies that allow them to bring subjects together like Arts and Math, or History and Science, and they may choose to join a program that specializes their education within a subject of interest. In all subject areas, critical thinking and communication are emphasized.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Richmond Hill District Curriculum
The core academic subjects of Math, Science, History, Languages and English are all central to a students' well-rounded development. Each area helps students understand how the world works, how to solve problems and understand information, and provides the conceptual basis by which higher-levels of understanding can be attained. Students develop critical thinking skills such as reasoning, logic, interpretation, they learn about universal principles of Science, and begin to understand concepts such as government and economic systems.
In addition, the curriculum has designed programs for character education, cultural awareness, and community service. These are used to help students realize their full potential as citizens who will be responsible for community-based decisions in the future. Students have many opportunities to work on service-learning projects and community initiatives during their school years which will help them develop project planning and management skills. With this broad background, students are able to choose the areas they will pursue in post-secondary academics.

Keeping Informed: Recent Richmond Hill Educational News
- Global Education Program - The Global Education Program is an initiative of the York Catholic District to extend global awareness to students within their curriculum and through opportunities for learning abroad. Programs are available that take students to places like Italy, France or Peru to learn, study and experience the local culture.
- Community Engagement - The York Region District School Board has established the Parent, Family and Community Engagement Advisory Committee (PFCEA) to advise on ways to increase community engagement and the connections between students, families, community members and the schools. This advisory committee allows parents the opportunity to influence new policy initiatives in the district.
- Partnership Opportunities - The York Catholic District has adopted a policy whereby community members may ask permission to use school facilities for non-profit work at no charge to the organization. The partnerships hold great potential in that students are able to engage with new opportunities and charitable organizations are able to find a space for their work.
