Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Robinson District Curriculum

Science is an important part of the curriculum at Robinson Independent School District. Students begin by looking at subjects from a general viewpoint, then as they mature they look at each topic closer. While studying rocks, they begin to learn the different types and what led to the formation of each one. . During the study of chemistry, students learn how substances can be combined or separated to form different substances. They continue in this way while studying life, ecology, and more. This study shows students how to look beyond the surface of things to see things from different viewpoints.

The reading curriculum is geared to developing the habits of analytic and critical reading. To help build children's confidence in reading, they need to learn a type of automatic inner dialogue while reading. Parents can help to build this by asking some of these questions when the children are reading. The children will begin to ask themselves the questions automatically. They should also ask themselves why they are reading a selection and what they expect to learn. Also how the material is organized and what they already know about it. Finally, they need to determine if they need to vary their speed by their understanding of any new material.
