The Montour School District closely adheres to state and national educational standards. They also recognize the value and importance of hands on experiences where learning is student centered instead of teacher centered. Chalk Talk: Exploring Career Choices Before Graduation

Many times it is a class, a subject or a teacher that inspires students to pursue a given career. For many students, they encounter their future career in classes long before they are thinking seriously about college. Because of this, it can be very wise to introduce young students to career options and current technology so that they can begin to experience what options might be out there for them. Some school districts are therefore implementing more specialized programs in various disciplines for students at younger ages. This is an encouraging step that should help facilitate the decision making process for students investigating various career choices by allowing them to engage in topics and experience them without the pressure of having to make a decision right away. Schools also should work towards increasing their community partnerships that can offer work-learning opportunities in the way of internships, job shadowing and mentoring.
