Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Rochester Hills District Curriculum
Rochester Hills Community Schools offer a challenging elementary and middle school curriculum that is aligned with State Common Core Standards and Content Expectations. English and Language Arts begin with foundational skills like phonics and reading fluency. As students become independent readers, instruction focuses on reading comprehension and students learn to write about deeper meanings like themes and how a character’s point of view affects a story. Instruction in Math uses the hands-on Everyday Math series which also emphasizes math vocabulary instruction.
Students are also challenged at the high school level. The English department develops skills in the areas of listening, speaking, viewing, and reading. There is also a special emphasis on using the writing process to generate ideas and write about them effectively. Mathematics instruction offers algebra, geometry, and calculus; plus, students have the option of taking several Advanced Placement courses.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: How to Make Spelling Fun
Studying spelling words every night can be challenging for families but there are ways to make it fun. Pick up some foam letters and poster paint at a craft store and practice painting words with your favorite combination of colors. Fridge magnets also offer countless hours of spelling practice. While cooking you can tell your child how words are spelled and they can work on the arrangements. When kids get a little older, magnetic poetry kits can also provide a slew of creative options for learning about language.
