Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Roselle District Curriculum
The districts believes that a commitment to learning will encourage each student to achieve his or her full potential as well as a sense of self-worth, taking into account students individual learning styles and respecting the rights of all members of the school community in a secure, safe, and caring environment. The school also believes in promoting a sense of community and good citizenship in its students.
The districts tries to communicate these common values to students through a partnership between the student, family, school, and community by encouraging participation in all school activities and functions by students and teachers as well as parents and others when possible. Community involvement fosters a sense of pride in student accomplishments which motivates students towards excellence. This involvement also encourages acceptance of responsibility by all to maintain this level of educational involvement.

Chalk Talk: The TOEFL Examination
The Test of English for Foreign Language students (TOEFL) is a standardized test required by most colleges for students for whom English is a second language. The purpose of the TOEFL is to test English language proficiency, especially for students applying from abroad from countries whose language isn’t English. The test consists of a reading, speaking, listening, and writing sections, each with a value up to 30 points, for a total of 120 possible. For most colleges, a certain score is required or recommended, often 90-100, and once the student has achieved that, the college usually isn’t particularly concerned anymore, which is different from SAT or ACT scores; most students will take the TOEFLS only enough to hit that minimum score and then move on to focusing on other aspects of the application, whereas with the SAT and ACT, students will retake the tests several times trying to make a higher score.
