Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Royal Palm Beach District Curriculum

Students in Palm Beach County Schools learn how to understand and use the scientific process in a variety of conditions in science courses. All courses are required to develop students’ knowledge in the areas of Earth and Space, Physical, and Life science. In elementary school, students will begin their education by investigating the natural world and the human body. Advanced science courses may require students to conduct experiments of their own in diverse settings and interpret the gathered data.

Students can also prepare for college by taking Advanced Placement courses in Math, English, History, Science, and World Languages. Some schools may also provide instruction in certain vocational areas, such as business, finance, and health science. Internships and laboratory experiences are an integral part of these courses. Students are encouraged to take elective courses to enhance their education as well. Art electives are available to students who wish to enhance their skills in the visual arts, dance, drama, and music. The history of such art forms and specific techniques will be emphasized.

Chalk Talk: Odds & Evens

Some questions on the GRE and other math tests will test your knowledge of how odd and even numbers combine. You can certainly choose numbers and test them out but there is a simpler way to find the outcome. When adding or subtracting 2 odd numbers or 2 even numbers, the result will always be even. Adding or subtracting an even number with an odd number will result in an odd number. When it comes to multiplication, the rules are a little different. If any integer is even, then the result will also be even. It is also true that if there are no even numbers, the answer will always be odd. With division, there are no set rules except that an odd number divided by any integer will not result in an even integer. Memorizing these number properties and practicing their use may help you to become a faster and more effective test-taker.
