Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Saginaw District Curriculum

The public school districts offers curriculum that meets or exceeds the federal No Child Left Behind regulations. Science includes a full spectrum of topics covering natural phenomenon. Math covers everything from simple addition to complex calculus. English subjects are comprehensive and include writing and comprehension. The Social Studies curriculum includes history, civics and economics.

The introduction of Common Core Standards have increased the rigor in Math and Language Arts and use these subjects to help develop learning strategies which students will use in all their subjects. In Language Arts, reading is taught so that students read literary and non-fiction texts as well as have ample opportunities to study media. Through this, they develop keener evaluative and analytic skills to apply to their texts. Research skills are also focused on so that students are able to access and evaluate the quality of information they find.

Chalk Talk: How Often Should Your Child Study?

Studying is not something that can be done on the fly. Many students wait until the last minute to cram, frankly that is not really helpful and only creates a stressful environment. Study habits are habits that have to be developed in elementary school! Providing a quiet place to study and designating a specific time period when the studying will occur will help your student to develop good study habits that can help them sustain throughout their academic career. A child needs to be taught how to study! Providing the right atmosphere to study in and giving the right encouragement will help your student to succeed.
