San Benito District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
San Benito Schools use the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills to create a curriculum that produces students that are life-long learners. The curriculum provides a series of learning objectives in each subject that students should meet and also connects each subject to the critical thinking skills that students should be developing. This comprehensive approach helps students develop the ability to understand the world, think through problems, and communicate workable solutions.
We currently cover the following San Benito-area school district: San Benito Consolidated Independent School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the San Benito District Curriculum
The students at San Benito Schools use Social Studies to learn how the world is connected. Students find out how explorers opened up the world to find trade routes or new lands to be settled. Through this discovery, students find out how a country an ocean away helped to settle the New World, which would one day become the United States. Students discover how these settlers brought a bit of their culture to other parts of the world so that soon a new group would form that would combine several cultures.
Mathematics is taught from the first day at San Benito Schools. Students learn how to count, add and subtract in the first couple of years. After this they learn how to use this foundation to explore more complex mathematics. Whether multiplication, division, algebra or geometry, students discover how to find solutions to equations through variations using these skills. When they enter high school, students take entire classes in Geometry, Algebra, Probability or Calculus to help prepare them for the future as problem-solvers.

Chalk Talk: Helping Children Succeed at Math
Many children, and adults, cringe when they think about math. There are ways that even parents that cringe can help their children do well at math. The first thing to do, or don’t do, is to make sure that the child sees their parent approach math with a positive attitude. Then let the child know that they can succeed in this subject and praise them when they do well in an area that they have worked hard. Parents should avoid comparing their child with any other child. The child should look at their own improvement not at how others are doing. Next, if a child does not do well on a test, or an assignment, use this as a learning experience, not a time of failure. Finally if a child still has difficulties, look into a tutor for the child. These professionals have the knowledge of teaching math and have techniques that may not have been tried.
